Large and Extra Large Armor pickups are rarer than ones that give less, and are often found in secrets.

If the player's armor count is reduced to zero, the player will start taking full damage from attacks again. This makes it much more likely that the player will survive multiple attacks or one stronger attack than they would without armor. The damage absorbed by the armor is taken from the player's current armor points. When the player has armor, a certain amount of damage (usually up to 2/3 of the total damage) is absorbed from each attack.
